…I don’t have anything to add to that, I just want to point out that I know that I said it.
In all seriousness I’m not worried about this distracting me from my RPG project, I am WAY too psyched about it (and omg I have mythology ideas starting to coalesce in my head! it’s so exciting!). But this cubing thing… it has *definitely* distracted me from my 7DRL attempt this year, but I don’t feel too bad about that to be honest.
Anyway, yeah – I think I’ll be spending a few more days on this to turn it into something I can put up on itch (and maybe steam and other stores) and give to you all. After that I’ll be back to RPG stuff full-time again!

Realistically though, it might take another full week to get it released OK on all the platforms I want (I’d like it available at all the places you can get Sophie’s Dice). But I’m starting to feel super open to just pressing pause on the project if it wants to monopolise more of my time, I want to be focusing on my RPG!
But still, this cubes thing is going pretty well, it’s getting super polished and the PC version is almost done.
A notice for $5+ patrons; I’ll get you an early build of this, hopefully tomorrow! Also I’m thinking of having private patrons-only streams instead of monthly videos, I’m not sure when I’ll start but I’ll let you know in advance as best I can!
In other news, I just want to say I’m super grateful to all of you, and I hope you’re all doing OK, especially with things as stressful as they are right now. I know I’ve not been able to get myself to leave the house for a week or so now, but I’m able to not worry about that too much because of your support – so if you need support yourself I hope you can find it, and I hope if you’re stuck at home too that maybe my output can make that a little more pleasant.
I love you all, so please take care! <3
Early Build: Sophie’s Cubes
Posted: August 20, 2021 Filed under: Patreon Leave a comment »There’s not really much I can say about this unless you have no idea what it is, so here’s what it is:
- Play with cubes (you know, puzzle/magic cubes, kinda-rhymes with “Kubrik’s”)
- Choose cubes of whatever size you like (2x2x2, 3x3x3, all the way up to 30x30x30)
- Customise your cubes however you like. If you know my dice app, you know I include a LOT of customisation options
- Includes some challenging cube presets like the XYZRGB or the crossings cube, as well as various colourblind and other picture cube designs
- Advanced settings for scrambling and timers
- Set up input bindings for pretty much every kind of move you can make on a cube – if you memorise the algorithms you can solve cubes VERY fast
This is only two weeks work but I think you’ll find it’s super polished, I’m hoping to put it on stores alongside my dice app pretty soon (and then I’ll get back to my RPG!)
> Here’s the link to get it for Win/Linux/Mac < (you’ll need to link your patreon and itch accounts I think!)
Anyway, if you have a good time or make some fun cubes, let me know! <3
Monthly Video – February 2020
Posted: August 20, 2021 Filed under: Patreon Leave a comment »As I mentioned when I announced this project, monthly builds will be monthly videos for a while. This is the first one!
As a rough guide to what is in the video:
- first 14 minutes are about my systems for pre-rendered environments in unity
- 8 minutes in, I show a panoramic pre-rendered environment
- 14-24 minutes I talk about rendering in blender with some substance material stuff too
- 24 minutes+ I basically waffle about wanting to figure out more of the game before I make much more stuff
If you have any questions or things you want me to cover next month, just let me know!
Also I say it in the video but I want to say it again here; thanks so much for your support! Without the pledges from all my patrons there’s no way I’d be able to work on a project like this! <3

Also I spent a few days improving/simplifying my camera system (it had some annoying issues before but they are gone!), and also also I’ve continued to jot down LOTS of notes.
You can check my full notes >>>here<<< (I don’t think I’m gonna dump them in these posts anymore. it’s getting out of hand :P) Heads-up though, starting this week the notes contain stuff that could be spoilers!
For the next week, I’m planning to familiarise myself with some blender rigging/animation tools, as well as unity’s mecanim system (I’ve only used the legacy animation system until now). A game like this will likely need a bunch of preperation/understanding for character models so that’s something I need to do.
